Let's begin by reassuring future BMX racers (and/or parents) about two important things:
What equipment do I need to race BMX?
- Handlebar grips that fully cover and enclose all metal and openings on the handlebar ends. Handlebars may not exceed 30" in width.
- Some form of operating braking system. A rear hand brake is best. A coaster or front hand brake is permitted but not recommended.
- All equipment must be safe and in good condition. Make sure bolts are tight and there are no broken welds or jagged exposures.
- Your bike must NOT have:
- Any kickstands, chain guards, fenders and reflector brackets.
- Any freestyle-type pegs.
We have a small fleet of BMX Race bikes of various sizes available to loan on a first-come-first-serve basis.
What gear do I need to wear to race BMX?
To participate in any of our sanctioned events, you must be wearing:
- Helmet with a permanent strap attached; snaps are not allowed. A full-face helmet.
- Long pants (waist to ankles). Shorts with shin and/or knee pads will be allowed at track operator discretion.
- Long-sleeved shirt
- Enclosed shoes
- Gloves (not required, but a good idea)
