Stanley’s power and speed were unmatched in Nor Cal, and soon he’d be traveling down to So Cal to take on the sport’s most reputable riders.

Way back in early 1977, when anxious teens received their second-ever issue of a brand new glossy magazine called Bicycle Motocross Action, right there - on the front cover, was Stanley Robinson!

Appearing to fly weightless into the night sky, aboard his Mongoose bike, wearing a King’s BMX jersey, The Fresno Flash greeted BMX fame head-on. Instant super stardom!

It wouldn’t be too long after that cover that Stanley was recruited by Factory Mongoose - joining a very strong roster made up of Hall of Famers.

Stanley’s power and speed were unmatched in Nor Cal, and soon he’d be traveling down to So Cal to take on the sport’s most reputable riders. And it was there, at the legendary Corona Raceway, where he’d make the biggest impact on the sport of BMX.

You see - up until this time, racers had all been doing one-footed starts. That is - until Stanley dropped the two-footed start on them. Balancing in the gate with BOTH feet on the pedals, to get the jump on the comp, was unheard of until Stanley Robinson did it. This new technique would instantly change BMX gate-starts as everyone knew it - and is the same starting technique used to this very day.

For a period of time, Stanley was one of the most dominant riders in the sport - doubling at the NBA Grand Nationals - held at Devonshire Downs. Constantly a threat on the UBR scene, he was also one of the few BMX Pros to ever Triple at the NBA Grands.

Stanley’s quest to look for an extra advantage over his comp has taken him to some peculiar places - including wild experimental bikes and parts, such as an early rear-suspension set-up and a crazy 10-inch long extend-O stem. Unlike his 2-footed start, these experimentations didn’t quite catch on.

Stanley retired from professional BMX racing in the 80’s, but this wouldn’t be the last time we heard his name being announced at a race. In recent years, the Fresno Flash came back to racing - with support from his long-time sponsor Mongoose Bicycles.

At the age of 61, Stanley Robinson is still going strong … still snappin’ out of gate doing the 2-footed start he invented, on today's USA BMX circuit - proving to all that nobody quits BMX!
