For so many of us, when that BMX bug bites you, you’re hooked. For some, the bite of that BMX bug is just an itch that can last for give or ten years… maybe more. But imagine with us, that when you are bitten by BMX, it’s for the REST of your LIFE. We’re talking about a LIFETIME of dedication to this wonderful sport - 40 or 50-plus years !
Tonight, we induct four very special couples who have done just that. They have played a vital part in their local BMX scene, they’ve had a HUGE role in their State race program, and they’ve sat on the board of the NBL, officiated or handled registration from the local to National level. The following couples have completely dedicated their Lives to BMX - and in doing so, have left HUGE impressions on multiple generations of BMX kids and their families.
John and Debi Diaz have been the consistent face behind Las Vegas’ thriving BMX scene for 48 years. They first started volunteering at Desert Surf BMX in 1977, then served as track operators of Vegas’ legendary Rough Rider BMX. Over the last 41 years, they’ve held positions of track operator, president and track clerk for Nellis BMX, while also helping establish six other tracks in Nevada and Utah.
Their tracks have been sanctioned by NBA, ABA, USBA, NBL, and now USA BMX. John has served as Nevada State Commissioner, been on NBL’s Board of Directors, and has raced cruisers since 1981.
Debi served as the clerk for Nellis BMX, the Nevada state board, and assisted in all of NBL’s major West Coast events. To this day, the Diazes are still going strong at Nellis BMX.
