The latest issue of Sports Illustrated for Kids hit the newsstand - and on the back cover of this June issue, was a call to race BMX. With the prime Summer racing-months upon us, USA BMX has just begun a 5-issue Ad campaign with the world's premiere Sports magazine aimed at tweens and teens.
With a target audience of 8 to 15 year olds (69% male, 31% female), this Time-Warner publication boasts a readership of 8.1 million readers per month (6.3 million kids and teens/1.8 million adults). In addition, SI FOR KIDS also maintains a national literacy program through controlled circulation to 200,000 children in more than 8,000 school classrooms across the country. Since its inception in 1989, the SI FOR KIDS' franchise has grown from the core magazine to include a website, a library of over 150 book titles, videos, and a weekly syndicated newspaper feature.
This is the second consecutive year that USA BMX has advertised BMX Racing to the readers of SI for Kids - yet is the first time we've ran a full page age. Placement on the backcover was a pleasant bonus.
"All of us at USA BMX are constantly trying to think of better ways to reach potential riders in our core age group," stated USA BMX president and CEO B.A. Anderson. "Thanks in part to its recognition as an Olympic Sport, BMX Racing has now become a legit youth sport that competes with baseball, football and soccer. Our goal is to let the athletic youth of the World know that there is a fun alternative to the same ol' stick and ball sports."
That back-cover Advertisement for BMX Racing on SI for Kids' June issue invites the reader to give BMX racing a try, and explains the four essential requirements to race BMX - a bike, a long sleeve shirt, loong pants and a helmet.
For the next four issues of SI for Kids, USA BMX will run a ad displaying the fun in racing, and promoting the sport of BMX racing - offering a free 1-Day membership to encourage first-time riders to give it a go.
