Nickelodeon and USA BMX have teamed up - along with many other sports organizations and celebrities. If you tune in to Nickelodeon TV on its 10th annual Worldwide Day of Play - September 19-21, all you will find is a blank screen encouraging kids to go outside and play. NO TV.
While the big Nickelodeon's Worldwide Day of Play is a day full of activities, games, sports, music and PLAY - held at the Nethermead at Prospect Park in Brooklyn, on (on Saturday, September 21 from 10 AM – 4 PM) - USA BMX and its tracks will be joining the Day of Play around the country.
How to get involved? Nickelodeon says:
1. Take those cell phones, TVs, computers and turn ‘em off. Enjoy the outdoors!
2. GRAB SOME FRIENDS: Because you can’t play dodgeball without a few pals!
3. GET ON WHEELS: Whether it’s a skateboard or a bike, life’s way more rad when you’re on some wheels! Join thousands of USA BMX racers at your nearest BMX track, bike trail or park.
4. SNAP A PIC: Take a snapshot of a sunset, the ocean or some wildflowers—the options are endless!
5. BUILD A FORT: What do branches, rocks & tarps have in common? They are all the makings of an EPIC fort!
6. TAKE A HIKE: Sing a song, collect some pinecones, and explore a wilderness trail!
7. PLAN A PICK-UP GAME: Grab that Frisbee or Football and get some friends together for an awesome game of pick-up!
8. GET GARDENING: There’s nothing more satisfying than seeing the fruits (or vegetables) of your labor. YUM!
9. LOOK UP: Kick back and take a look at the sky…from the clouds to the stars, you can learn something new every day!
10. EXPLORE: The world is waiting for YOU to come explore it. Now get outside and play!
The day arrived - and our USA BMX staffers were in place at the New York park where Nickelodeon expected tens of thousands of kids to show up to partake in some form of activity. USA BMX was in good company - with fellow athletic partners such as the U.S. Tennis Association, USA Paralympics, the NFL, NBA and Boys & Girls Clubs (just to name a few). Kids and parents showe dup in masse, and the Redline and Strider bikes that we had for demo bikes had kids lined up for a block to have fun and ride the mock-up BMX course. It was a Disney-like thrill ride, where kids would finish their ride and run right back to the end of the line to do it again.
USA BMX was pleased to be a part of our first Nickelodeon WorldWide Day of Play - and we plan to step things up for it more next year. We can't wait!
