The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced today that the 2020 Olympic games, set to begin on July 24, will now be postponed to 2021.

The decision was made Tuesday morning “to safeguard the health of the athletes, everybody involved in the Olympic Games and the international community,” according to a statement released by the IOC.

"Our number one priority at USA BMX has always been the safety of our members and BMX community,” said BA Anderson, USA BMX CEO. “We support the IOC and Tokyo organizers for putting health and safety first during this historic time in our world. Our focus will be to support our BMX Olympic hopefuls, and all our athletes, and provide as much information and resources to them as we can. We look forward to learning more on the new dates for Tokyo where we will cheer on Team USA, highlight and promote our Olympic hopefuls for one more year as they prepare for the biggest global sporting stage there is."
