Travis started racing in Simi Valley, California in 1976 at Hope Town. He had to get a parent`s signature on the original NBA form to race, so he ran down to the local liquor store and had the female clerk sign his form for him. Travis hung around with Brian Curnell and Dave Clinton at the tracks. He had to mow lawns to make sign up money. He went on to win the World Championship title in 1985 at the age of 17. Travis rode for big teams, such as Robinson in 1980 and Mongoose in 1986. He was in the movie RAD, where he played himself and was the stunt double for the main character, Bart Taylor. Travis was a huge influence in the Palm Springs "Race Against Drugs" campaign. He was the `95 World Cup Champ in Pro Cruiser and Vet Pro. He also worked for Specialized as team manager. Currently he works at Giant Bicycles.
