Just an update on what is happening at Richfield Park BMX.  On October 19, 2014, elections were held for all positions on the track board at Richfield Park BMX.  The only positions filled at the election were President, Track Operator, and one Trustee.  We are currently seeking other people interested in filling our remaining spots.  The most important of the remaining positions is our Clerk of Course which handles registration and scoring.  We believe we have a volunteer that will be taking on one of the two remaining Trustee positions.  Since our race season here at Richfield Park BMX concluded with the races on the 19th, we will have nearly 5 months to fill the remaining positions of Clerk of Course, Recording Secretary, Vice President, two Trustees, and a Concessions Manager.

Since we are a legitimate Non-Profit 501c3 through the IRS students requiring community service to forfill high school graduation requirements can participate at Richfield Park BMX in many capacities that would be considered community service.  Also, our volunteers who file their income tax returns using the long form, can use their volunteer time as a deduction on their return for mileagepurposed.  This information is to help you decide about giving us some of your time as a volunteer at Richfield Park BMX.

On taking on the responsibility of Track Operator, there are some things at the track that will be addressed as soon as possible.  The first of those items is to reconfigure the obstacle in the first straight entering the first turn.  The high triple step is huge and larger than it was originally intended to be.   With that said, the jump will be downsized and made into a more negotiable jump that will hopefully flow much better and be a challenge to our experts while allowing speed retention and giving our little racers a better chance of getting around the track.

As far as rider retention and promotion of the sport, efforts are going to be made to get more support from the business community through selling banners and feather flags that will bring notice to the products available in our community.  Local bike shop supporter Al Comstock has been a long time track supporter and will have the road side part of the announcing tower as the place his shop will be advertised.  Other premier spots are available for advertising.   Families supporting the track can also buy banners for their teams and plates for prices to be announced soon through our site.

Rider base is important and we will be doing what we can to increase the interest and bring on new licensed riders while hoping all racers who currently have Richfield Park BMX as their home track will renew their license with us when the time comes.

Other goals we hope to achieve during the 2015 race season or before hand include the following:

Painting weathered wood on picnic tables , Painting and replacing weathered wood on spectator stands, refreshing the paint on our registration building, removing and replacing asphalt on the side of and in front of the registration and concessions building, building a strider track with the Parks and Rec dept. approval, and possibly erecting light poles at the first and third turns.

Keep your eyes on our facebook page for daily updates @ Richfield Park BMX Track.  As the track operator, I will update this mini-site provided by USABMX on a weekly basis.
