The final preparations for the 2015 season are underway and the clock is ticking. We have lots of things to get done to be sure the entire facility is in top notch shape for the coming season. Everything from finishing the modifications to the track to a new starters stand and starting hill observation deck, to lots of repainting and other grounds maintenance work.

Track Work:

While the heavy work on the first straight is complete, we have some minor modifications and general jump refreshing to complete on the rest of the track. Much of this work is pending the delivery of lots and lots of dirt, and the procurement of a skid steer. Once that is done we will need at least 2 or 3 sessions of hand working and that is where we really need the help!

New Starter Stand and starting hill observation deck:

We are going to be building a new starters stand that is to the right side of the gate to allow the starter to see the entire track and the gate in a single view. This will make for a much safer starting process ensuring that the starter is able to react quickly to events on the track or in the gate simultaneously. With that, we will convert the current starters stand into an observation deck so spectators can get an up close view of the starting gate action while being safely away from danger!

Painting and other grounds maintenance:

The tower and conex sure could use a new coat of paint and our new starters stand and converted starting hill observation deck will need a fresh painting. We also have some steel benches that need to be installed in various locations around the property.

With just 5 weekends between the Annual Banquet and the Season Opener, we have a whole lot of work to do in a short amount of time. Every non-raining weekend day will be a work day, the only variable being whether the ground is too wet to work on the track. Stay tuned to the Richmond BMX Facebook page for updates on the scheduled work for the day. Come for an hour, or the whole day or anything in between, every bit of extra help is appreciated!
