(Aug 23, 2014, Rock Hill, SC) Nearly 10 years in planning and three years of construction, Saturday was the grand opening for the Rock Hill BMX Supercross Track.

"Folks have been waiting on this for quite a while," said Thad Fischer who is with Rock Hill Parks & Rec.

The facility features an 8 meter elite supercross start hill, 5 meter amateur start hill, pump track, instruction and community events, and programs for all ages and skill levels.

Saturday was the ribbon cutting and afternoon races. The park officially opens to the public on Tuesday.

"From 5 to 7 p.m. (Tuesday) we'll get you all set up and we'll give you all the info on how to race BMX," said former BMX pro Mike King.

Fischer said this park will be an economic boost to Rock Hill as this complex has been named host of the 2017 UCI BMX World Championships.
