Gearing Up For The Track

Gearing Up For The Track

Keeping riders safe is important for BMX. The gear you wear is designed specifically for BMX to keep riders safe while out on the tracks.

What You’ll Need

You can choose to wear as much safety gear as you see fit, but an approved helmet, long-sleeved shirt, and long pants are all you'll need to start riding.

Helmet

To provide maximum protection for your head and teeth, it is highly recommended that riders wear a full face helmet. Any helmet should pass CPSC standards, but motorcycle DOT helmets are recommended.

Goggles

Goggles

Goggles help protect riders’ eyes from wind, dust and debris from the track that can sometimes get kicked up while racing.

Jerseys

Jerseys can show off a rider’s personality while providing added protection. Typically made of breathable, tear-resistant material, a keep jersey can help keep riders both cool & protected during races.

Gloves

Gloves

Gloves aren’t required, but they certainly are recommended for riders to protect hands from cuts and scrapes in the event of a fall.

Pants

Race-specific pants include protection for knees, hips and shins. First time racers are recommended to wear a thick pant, like jeans, until they invest in race pants.

Shoes

Shoes

New riders can use any flat-soled sneaker or skate shoe to gain maximum grip to the pedal. More experienced riders (age 13 or older and not in Novice classes) may switch to clipless shoes for a more efficient pedal stroke.

Take Your Gear For a Ride

Now that you look like you’re ready to hit the track, it’s time to get out there and ride!
