USA Cycling and USA BMX are pleased to announce the addition of the Collegiate BMX National Championship category to the USA BMX Super Nationals in DeSoto, TX, April 4-5, 2014. This will be the third year that USA Cycling has held a national championship for collegiate athletes in the discipline of BMX.  In 2013, it was Marian University that won out over a strong field of competitors, including 2012 national champions Lindsey Wilson College.

The 2014 edition promises to bring an even more seasoned field of competitors, featuring amateurs and professionals alike. Many of the country’s top collegiate cycling teams are expected to make strong runs at the championship title, including Fort Lewis College, Lindenwood University, Mars Hill University, and Colorado Mesa University.

By holding the event later than in years past, many of the student athletes competing in DeSoto will be able to train for the event throughout the early spring and transition smoothly into the road season afterward. “A really great aspect of collegiate cycling is that so many athletes cross over between disciplines, and become true all-around athletes,” said USA Cycling’s Regional Programs Manager Jeffrey Hansen. “We’re excited to see BMX continuing to grow among colleges and really start to take root among these teams as a big part of their programs.”

On both Friday and Saturday, college teams will have a designated area to set up tents and tables and provide admissions information to future and prospective recruits. This will allow Saturday in DeSoto to be a recruiting day to the expected 1,000 participants and their parents.

The Collegiate BMX National Championship will be open to all full-time students with BMX racing experience at colleges or universities that have registered teams with USA Cycling. More details on the event can be found at the event page here.
