Chula Vista, Calif. (September 26, 2014) – The final round of the 2014 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup got underway at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. on Friday with the Time Trial Superfinals.
Taking full advantage of the fact that they were racing on home soil, Team USA made quite a showing as Connor Fields (Henderson, Nev./ Chase/Monster), Jared Garcia (Victorville, Calif./Supercross BMX), and Corben Sharrah (Tucson, Ariz./Haro Bicycles) swept the men's podium and Felicia Stancil (Lake Villa, Ill./GT Bicycles) timed trialed her way to the silver medal in the women's event.
"The key to time trials is just running a smooth lap and minimizing mistakes," Fields said after his win. "On a big gnarly track like this one, it's just about who can handle it. And it's about mental preparation."
Fields clocked a time of 38.142 to take the top step of the podium ahead of compatriots Jared Garcia and Corben Sharrah who posted times of 38.266 and 38.386, respectively.
In the women's event, Stancil had an outstanding run, clocking a time of 38.441 to grab the silver medal behind Mariana Pajon (COL) who took the win with a 38.182. Laura Smulders (NED) was third with a 39.106 and American Brooke Crain (Visalia, Calif./Haro Bicycles) had a solid run in a time of 39.247 for fourth place.
In addition to Team USA's success in the women's time trials, Alise Post (St. Cloud, Minn./Redline) and Dani George (Palmdale, Calif.) qualified in first and second for Saturday's Supercross. Alaina Henderson (Ruby, NY), Shealen Reno (Plano, Texas/Hyper Bicycles), Shelby Stacy (Bakersfield, Calif./Marian University), and Ashley Verhagen (Peoria, Ariz./FastSigns-Redline) will also compete in the next round on Saturday.  In men's qualification, Jeremy Rommel (Hesperia, Calif.) and David Herman (Wheat Ridge, Colo./Free Agent Bicycles) qualified first and second for the USA, while Tanner Sebesta (Austin, Texas), Nicholas Long (Lakeside, Calif.), Sean Gaian (Santee, Calif.), Justin Posey (Winston Salem, NC/Dan's Comp), Jeffrey Upshaw (Dayton, Ohio/Kuwuhara USA), Elliot McGrath (Tempe, Ariz./C-Yoa-OFR), Nicholas Koehler (Tustin, Calif.), Jordan Miranda (Bakersfield, Calif.), Thomas Zula (New Carlisle, Ohio/DK Bicycles), and Bryce Hocking (Carlsbad, Calif./Marian University) will also move to the next round.
