USA BMX Announces New Adaptive All-Wheel Race Park Coming to Kernersville, North Carolina

The new facility will be the first of its kind in the Mid-Atlantic, bringing inclusive, multiuse cycling and action sports to riders of all abilities

TULSA, Okla. (Sep. 14, 2026)—USA BMX has partnered with the Town of Kernersville and Visit Winston-Salem, taking a major step toward redefining the future of community recreation and sports tourism with the approval of phase one of the design process for an innovative USA BMX-sanctioned adaptive all-wheel race park.

Approved unanimously on Sept. 1 by the Kernersville Board of Aldermen, the project will move forward with Action Sports Design, an industry leader in the planning and design of action sports facilities. Once completed, the Kernersville facility will be the first park of its kind in the Mid-Atlantic region and the fifth adaptive all-wheel race park to move into development in the United States.

“This project aligns with Kernersville’s broader vision for thoughtful growth and creating new opportunities for our community,” said Ernie Pages, Parks and Recreation Director for the Town of Kernersville. “Investments like this can help diversify the ways people experience and engage with our town, while creating new opportunities for tourism, local spending and future development. Moving into the design phase allows us to take a closer look at how this facility can contribute to Kernersville’s long-term growth and position within the region.”

Along with being the fifth track in North Carolina, the project will offer a new approach to community bike and multiuse wheel parks. In Kernersville, the facility could serve as both a local recreational resource and a regional destination for competition. Its flexible design would allow the park to support everyday use while accommodating larger events, helping maximize the community’s investment and expand access to riders of different ages and abilities. 

The vision extends beyond BMX racing or any single discipline. Instead, the facilities are designed around the idea that a community can create one destination where different forms of wheeled recreation coexist, from a child learning to ride for the first time to an elite athlete preparing for competition.

“Kernersville’s sports tourism landscape is continuing to evolve,” said Bonny Bernat, Senior Sports Development Manager at Visit Winston-Salem. “This facility adds a new type of competitive venue to the area while complementing the sports facilities already drawing athletes to Kernersville and Forsyth County. As we continue building our sports tourism portfolio, we’re looking for opportunities that bring new audiences and new reasons for people to choose Winston-Salem and the surrounding communities for their next competition.”

With phase one of the design process now approved, Kernersville is laying the groundwork for a facility intended to become a model for the next generation of bike, skate and multiuse wheel parks across the country.

According to Justin Travis, Director of Business Development for USA BMX, the Kernersville project represents an opportunity to strengthen BMX racing’s footprint in North Carolina while positioning the community to host larger events. As the sport continues to grow, a new facility could give more riders access to a dedicated place to compete while bringing higher-level competitions to the region.

“This project is an investment in the next generation of athletes,” said Travis. “A facility like this can give young riders a place to build confidence and see a pathway from recreational riding to competitive sport. Creating opportunities for athletes to train and compete close to home grows participation while giving the region a stronger foundation for developing talent at every level.”
