FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

USA BMX Expands Transponder Scoring to Expert Open, Girl Cruiser, and Cruiser Classes for 2026

In an ongoing effort to modernize racing events and improve scoring accuracy, along with expanding event efficiency, USA BMX is expanding its transponder-based scoring system for the 2026 national season. For the first time, Expert Open, Girl Cruiser, and Cruiser classes will be added to the transponder-scored class list—joining Pro and Expert categories already using the technology.

Starting January 1, 2026, transponders will be required for the following classes at all USABMX national events:

  • Men Pro

  • Women Pro

  • Vet Pro

  • ABA Futures Men

  • ABA Future Women
  • Expert

  • Girls Expert

  • Cruiser

  • Girls Cruiser

  • Expert Open

No Change for Novice, Intermediate, or Local-Level Racing
As in previous years, Novice, Intermediate, and most local-level racing classes will remain untimed, maintaining a lower barrier of entry for developing riders.

Why the Change?

The inclusion of Expert Open, Girl Cruiser, and Cruiser into timed scoring reflects both the growth of these categories and the demand for greater consistency in results and data. Riders in these classes will now benefit from the same level of accuracy and accountability established in Expert and Pro divisions. USA BMX will also be launching an online photo finishes, giving riders and fans unprecedented access to finish line images during each event.

Transponders: How They Work

USA BMX utilizes MyLaps ProChip Transponders, a globally trusted standard in competitive sports timing. Transponders attach to a rider’s front fork leg and transmit timing signals as they cross loops placed under the track surface.

Benefits include:

  • Instant lap-by-lap results and finishing times via our.sqorz.com

  • Enhanced timing accuracy (to the thousandth of a second)

  • Advanced round lane selection based on timed seeding

  • Photo finish

  • Immediate results for live broadcasts and spectators

  • Reduction in manual scoring and protest disputes

  • Instant racing results for riders at designated Check Stations

Transponder Subscriptions & Activation

Riders must own a transponder with a valid subscription to participate in scored classes.

Transponders can be purchased from usabmxtiming.com, MyLaps.com, or on-site at all national events. A valid subscription is required for the transponder to function—subscriptions range from 1 to 5 years and can be managed at mylaps.sqorz.com, where a subscription can be purchased for as low as $28 a year.

Check Stations at Every National Event

At all USA BMX Nationals, a Transponder Check Station will be available during practice and race days. These stations provide:

  • Subscription verification

  • Transponder read testing

  • Current registration status

  • Diagnostic help for non-active transponders

Look for the Check Station tent, typically located near staging or registration areas.. RIDERS/PARENTS, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ENSURING THAT THE CORRECT TRANSPONDER IS PROPERLY MOUNTED ONTO YOUR FORK AND IS WORKING BEFORE ENTERING THE TRACK. THIS WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED IN 2026.

Riders are required to test transponders before racing using the on-site Check Station
