What a weekend for Matt. He went into the weekend ranked number 1 in the inter-novic 7yr old age group. he was at 80 points with the next rider at 79 points. We didn't know that rider because he had just moved up in the age group. Our Team was in the number 1 spot for the trophy team. Matt only had 2 races to go before turning expert. We all were very excited going into the weekend.
Matt got to spend time with his racing friends and meet more friends. by the end of the weekend he knew all the racers in his age group. Our team got some bonding done at the hotel.
On Saturday Matt won his race and help our team finish with 207 points. We hoped it was enough to win. He had one race down and one to go. He kept telling people he was turning expert tomorrow, yes he was excited about the next day.
Sunday we woke up to rain but it was done by the time the race started. Matt and his team mates had a great day of racing. all of our team made the mains with most of them finishing in the top four. Matt finished first in the first main and then we watched the rest of the races and cheered on his friends. He came out of the gate like light'n and won his race. As he crossed the finish line Kevin anouced that he was the newest Minnesota Expert.
He won the state race, turned expert, he was named the state champ and got his plate and backpack. Then our team found out we named the state champs in the trophy team. it was a great way to end the season on a high note.
