After waiting years and years, just for my youngest son to be able to reach his pedals. It took him no time to really progress into a stable, controlled rider. It was January 2014, Camdens 7th birthday he received his first trick bike. Standing on his seat and riding with no hands, showing off for his friends, thrilled him. It wasn't until a flyer for Westmoreland BMX open house came around his school, did we even think of taking part in actual racing. We had previously rode the track, but only on his 8" bike. April 2014, we arrived at the open house.Fully commited to racing. We scored a deal on two second hand bikes, one for each of my sons. My closest friend now and as a child, raced bmx for years when we were teenagers. I had watched but never participated in any of the details. My sons, wife and I looked startled to say the least. Motos? Shutes?gates? all seemed overwhelming,on top of the anticipation of them actually being out there. We eventually marched our way up to staging. I'm not sure if my sons legs trembled, but mine did for them. On the gate, I held their rear wheels between my legs and watched with more concern and concentration, and a overwhelming feeling of joy as they bolted around that track for their first times. We were hooked.
