With around 120 motos Oak Creek was busy and the competition was fierce. That's not really surprising because Oak Creek is a great track, well oiled, and close to the Sacramento metro region. Plus it doesn't hurt that the track will host the Ca North State Championship Race in September, right before the SoCal Nationals.
I raced in the 41-45 Intermediate group which had 11 riders in 2 racks (motos 74 & 75). Qualifying motos took 2 and 2 out of each rack. I was grouped with moto 75 (5 riders), I took 2nd in round 2 which was enough to qualify to the main. In the main I fell to last place going into the first berm but with a great pass I pulled up to 2nd or 3rd but had no speed to keep the place. One rider swooped down high-low and quickly passed me then the rider on my outside also passed me but he got squirrelly going into the next set of jumps almost crashing. I was right behind him so I hit my brakes and swung out wide. I still had 4th at that point but the squirrelly rider got back up to speed and passed me. In the end I took home a 5th place. Not bad considering that this was only my 4th race in 30 years, everyone else in my group had at least a year's experience. Not too bad considering.
My skills need to improve if I'm going to be successful. I need more time on track and work on cardio. I have 1 win towards turning Expert so if I want to be competitive at the next level I need to be able to win title races. I'll gear my training accordingly and work hard to get there.
